Vaginismus is a condition where the there is an involuntary contraction of muscles in the vagina that makes sexual intercourse painful and/ or impossible. Vagnismus is the main cause of unconsummated marriages and Vagnismus sufferers may find it impossible to use tampons or even complete a gynecologic exam. According to the Vaginismus Awareness Network only 28% found out about Vagnismus from their doctor and most found information and support from online resources. There are many women who do not have internet and suffer in silence because of lack of awareness and understanding. Vaginismus is highly treatable and can include psychological or physical treatment depending on the cause of Vagnismus and if it is primary or secondary Vagnismus.
