  • A Vaginal Contraceptive Ring is a type of birth control that releases a combination of hormones to mainly prevent pregnancy. The hormones released by the ring are a combination of estrogen and progestin.

    Vaginal contraceptive rings are available by prescription only. However, a physician is not necessary to insert the ring. Over a month period of time, the vaginal contraceptive ring is left inserted for three weeks, and taken out for one week. During the week no ring is in place, menstruation occurs.
