• History:

  The first vacuum cleaner was invented by Ives W. McGaffney in 1869. He called his invention the "Whirlwind" and it was a manual hand crank mechanism to produce suction and had no brush roller.

  In 1905, Chapman and Skinner invented the first electric vacuum cleaner. It weighed 92 pounds and contained an 18 inch fan. Hoover soon followed in 1908 with their Model O vacuum cleaner. This machine had a cloth bag filter and a variety of attachments.
