V is a Sci Fi television series remake that airs on Tuesdays on ABC. V is a re-imagining of a 1983 miniseries and science-fiction franchise created by Kenneth Johnson. The new series chronicles the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced alien species who appear to come in peace, but actually have sinister motives.
The first season premiered on November 3, 2009 on ABC and was a ratings success, averaging 13.9 million viewers. The second part of the first season returned on Tuesday March 30th. The show has been reviewed positively by critics, who speculate it may be one of the best Sci Fi shows of all time. King Features' entertainment reporter Cindy Elavsky calls V "the best new show on television, by far. The special effects are feature-film quality; the writing is intelligent and time-relevant; and the acting is first-rate. The first five minutes alone will hook you for the entire season." The show is shown on Nine Network in Australia, Syfy UK in the United Kingdom and Warner Channel in Latin America.
The re-imagined series has drawn controversy as it has been interpreted as an allegory of the presidency of Barack Obama. Jeffrey Bell, an executive produced, said V is "a show about spaceships," and Scott Peters, another executive produced, has said "there is no particular agenda." Actress Morena Baccarin has said that she had modeled her character, Visitor leader Anna, after politicians, but denies that her character is linked in any way to Barack Obama.
