History
Us Weekly was founded originally by the New York Times company as an entertainment industry magazine which was published bi-monthly under the name Us Magazine.
In 2000, with the magazine now owned and published by the Wenner Group, the magazine was reformatted to amplify its demographic reach and was transformed into a celebrity style and gossip magazine.
As part of the change in format, Us Magazine was changed to a weekly publication and changed its name to Us Weekly, the name which it is known as today.
In 2001, Wenner Media entered into a partnership with The Walt Disney Company which gave that company a 50% stake in Us Weekly. This partnership lasted until 2006, when Wenner Media repurchased the stake that had been held by Disney.
Prior to Us Weekly once again becoming a wholly owned publication of the Wenner Group. The magazine's website, UsMagazine.com was launched in July of 2006.
