Three men and three women, plus two alternates, represented the United States in the triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
The men's competition began at 10:00 a.m. China Standard Time on August 18, 2008, while the women's event started at 10:00 a.m. CST on August 19, 2008. Each competition consists of a 1,500 meter swim, 40 kilometers of cycling and a 10 kilometer run.
The Olympic Triathlon was added to the summer competitions in 2000. Susan Williams won a bronze medal for the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The U.S. failed to win a triathlon medal at the 2008 Summer Games. Laura Bennett finished fourth in the women's event, while Hunter Kemper placed seventh in the men's competition.
