  • The 18 members of the United States sailing team competed in 11 events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Team members raced in the Qingdao International Marina during the August 9-21, 2008, competitions.     The United States has won 59 medals in sailing, 19 of which were were gold, since sailing was introduced to the games in 1900. 58-year-old John Dane III lead the team and competed in the men's keelboat event with his son-in-law Austin Sperry. Dane is the oldest member of the team and first competed in the U.S. Olympic Trails in 1968.Official Site: John Dane III
