The United States did not compete in the handball events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. This is the only of the 28 sports for which the United States did not qualify.
Both the men's and women's national handball teams failed to qualify for the 2007 Pan American Games, which was the last qualifying event for the 2008 Olympics. Each team would have needed to take home a gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games to earn an Olympic berth.
