The U.S. men's national basketball team represents the United States of America in international play. The team competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. On August 22, 2008, the U.S. defeated Argentina to reach the finals. They defeated Spain 118-107 in the gold medal game on August 24 to give the U.S. their first gold medal in men's basketball since 2000.

The Dream Team
Prior to 1989, only amateur players could be part of the U.S. men's national basketball team. After the rule was changed to allow professional players to join, the 1992 U.S. Olympics team was comprised of some of the top NBA players at the time, such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Charles Barkley. The team went undefeated in winning the gold medal with an average margin of victory of 44 points.
