UPS has grown to be the world’s largest delivery company since its founding in 1917. United Parcel Service had a strong growth nationally and internationally. The company transports specialized packages and logistics services globally. UPS has also become a leader in the logistics of managing the movement of goods, information and money across the globe. They have their operations split into three segments which include U.S. Domestic Package operations, International Package operations and Supply Chain & Freight operations.
The U.S. Domestic Package operations include the timed delivery of letters, documents and packages throughout all the states.
Their International Package operations include deliveries outside the United States. They deliver packages to more than 200 countries worldwide.
Supply Chain & Freight operations include their forwarding and logistics operations and freight operations. These services include the execution and management, freight forwarding and distribution, customs brokerage and mail and consulting services in more than 175 countries worldwide. Other business services that UPS offers to its customers are Mail Boxes Etc. and The UPS Store.
UPS is well-known for the brown trucks and brown uniforms that the employees wear. The brown is known as Pullman Brown. How Stuff Works created a video of how UPS works. This is a video account of what happens to a package in United Parcel Service from the time it is taken to be delivered to the delivery. The video camera takes us behind the scenes, where we are not usually allowed to be.

- UPS, also known as United Parcel Service, was founded in 1907 in the United States by Jim Casey and Claude Ryan as a messenger service. It was originally called American Messenger Company.
- By 1918, they needed to hire another person for deliveries.
- Effective 1919, the business started to spread to other locations.
- In 1937, the UPS logo was revised to include The Delivery System for Stores of Quality.
- In 1952, Blue Label Air was established.
- Graphic designer [[]]Paul Rand designed the iconic logo for UPS in 1961, the shield that represents stability and integrity, and the bow on the box which represents the package service.
- In 1975, they began services to 48 states in the USA and during the same year, they opened services in Canada under the name UPS Canada Ltd.
- In 1988 UPS Airlines was launched.
- UPS Capital was established in 1998 and UPS acquired Challenge Air in 1999.
- UPS became a public company in 1999.
- Mail Boxes Etc was purchased and rebranded The UPS Store in 2001.
- 2003 they unveiled a new logo.
- UPS got into the heavy freight business in 2004 when they purchased Menlo Worldwide Forwarding. They rebranded this company as UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
- 2005 saw another major acquisition of Overnite Transportation. It then became UPS Freight. They also purchased the UK company of LYNX Express Ltd the same year.
