Synopsis

Up! tells the story of a 78 year old man named Carl (voiced by Ed Asner). As a young boy, Carl fell in love with a boyish looking girl named Ellie. Ellie is also a Charles F. Muntz (voice by Christopher Plummer) fan like Carl. Muntz is a popular explorer who was accused of fabricating a gigantic skeleton of a bird which he found in Paradise Falls. The two would fantasize about adventuring in South America together. Ellie has a scrapbook which has her dream of moving her clubhouse near the waterfall at Paradise falls.

The two later got married and had a rich and full life together, with the beginning of the movie showing a montage of their happy life. They didn’t have a child though but they remained happy together throughout the years. When they were in their seventies, Carl decided to fulfill their dream of travelling to South America by committing to two plane tickets to the destination. Unfortunately, Ellie becomes ill then passed away shortly before they could take their adventure together.

Following this event, Carl's house becomes threatened by pending construction. Refusing to sell the house he built alongside his loving wife, Carl ended up fighting with one of the construction worker which resulted to a court order stating that he must more into a retirement home. Because he doesn’t want to leave the house, he attaches what seems like hundreds if not thousands of balloons to his house, lifting it off the ground and toward South America. It was only after he is well into the air that Carl discovers Russell, a chubby and excited Cub Scout, standing on his front porch.

After arduous journey, the two eventually find their way to Paradise Falls, South America. Their adventure started from there. They encountered a tall colorful bird which also helped them within the journey. They also discovered the elusive Charles Muntz, a former pilot that eventually tries to kill Carl and Russell by using specially trained dogs he had raised over the past years. Official Site: Up
