The BlackBerry Storm is a smart phone produced by Research in Motion in 2008. The phone is the first in the BlackBerry line to sport a touch screen. Initially the phone requires a contract with Verizon Wireless with a two-year contract. In order to avoid this commitment and allow the phone to utilize other carriers, people can purchase unlock codes for the Storm from third party websites.

Unlocking the Storm
Just a few days after being released by RIMM and Verizon, a forum user posted how he unlocked his BlackBerry Storm. According to the report, he called Verizon and informed them that he was planning an extended trip overseas and wanted to use the GSM band on the phone. After reviewing and signing off on an e-mail disclosure statement about the process, he received an unlock code from Verizon to permanently unlock his phone - all for free. Since then many websites have sprung up offering to provide unlock codes to customers for prices ranging from $10 to $60 and more for mail-in services.
