University of Toronto

The University of Toronto is a public research university granting undergraduate and graduate degrees. It covers three campuses: the main campus in downtown Toronto, and two satellite campuses in Scarborough and Mississauga.

The school was originally founded in 1827 as King's College. It was renamed in 1850, taking its present name of the University of Toronto. It began issuing doctorate degrees in 1897 under president James Loudon.
