University History
The school was originally founded in 1872, and offered only art degrees when it opened in 1875. The school was forced to close in 1878 for six years due to financial difficulties. The campus expanded in the late 1920s to its current location. It was not until 1967 that the college earned its university status and began collecting state funding.
