University History
The school was originally founded as a private school, in 1886, as Chattanooga University. It merged with East Tennessee Wesleyan University at Athens, in 1889, to form Grant University. The name was changed to the University of Chattanooga in 1907. It continued to operate as a private school until 1969, when it was adopted by the University of Tennessee system.Notable Alumni
