The University of Tennessee is a public institution of higher education granting undergraduate and graduate degrees. Located in Knoxville, it is the flagship campus for the statewide Tennessee university system. Its athletic teams are members of the Southeastern Conference.

University History
The school was originally founded in 1794 as Blount College. After a name change in 1807, the then East Tennessee College was shut down in 1809 after the only two staff members died. The school reopened in 1820 and was granted full university status in 1840, taking the name of the University of Tennessee.Notable Alumni
