University History
The school was originally founded in 1839 after a group of private citizens pledged $117,921.Official Site: History of the University of Missouri-Columbia The school expanded in 1870 after it was given land-grant status from the state. A 1892 fire destroyed much of the campus, leaving just one building. Its journalism school was founded in 1908, as the first of its kind in the world. -
