The first presidential debate between candidates Barack Obama and John McCain focused on issues of foreign policy, as planned, but strayed occasionally onto energy policy, taxes, spending and the current financial crisis. The debate was held on September 26, 2008, at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi and was moderated by PBS anchor Jim Lehrer.
