The University of Minnesota is a public four year institution of higher education. The school is part of the Big Ten athletic conference.

University History
The school was originally founded in 1851. They were forced to close during the U.S. Civil War, but reopened in 1867. The school's colors of maroon and gold were selected in 1880. Two years later, on September 29, 1882, the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team played their first game.Notable Alumni
