  • History

    The college was originally founded in 1925 by a group of Florida citizens. The school held its first classes in 1926, while construction was underway on the campus buildings.
  • Expansion

    Bowman Foster Ashe became the first university president in 1926 and was responsible for considerably expanding the school. In the following years the schools of law, business, and education were founded on the campus. In 1941, their graduate school was added, with science, engineering and medicine programs following.
  • Athletics

    The University of Miami Hurricanes compete in a variety of mens and womens sports. The team colors are orange, green and white. The Miami Hurricanes Football team has been highly successful since it began in 1926. They have won a total of five national championships, most recently in 2001.
