  • University History

    The school was originally founded in 1894 as the Lowell Normal School. It changed names several times over the following 80 years. In 1975, Lowell Technological Institute and Lowell State College merged and formed the University of Massachusetts Lowell. It was not until 1991 that the school officially entered the University of Massachusetts system.
