University History
The school was originally founded in 1898 as the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute. Its Lafayette campus opened in 1901. The college added several programs over the next century, including nursing, music, art and architecture. Most recently, in 1999, the school was renamed the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.Notable Alumni
