On Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2009, a shooting occurred at the Athens Community Theatre at which three adults were killed and a fourth wounded. A University of Georgia professor, George M. University History
The school was originally incorporated in 1785 as the first state-chartered university in the United States.Official Site: Quick facts about UGA The college was actually founded in 1801, as Franklin College, with the first class graduating in 1804. The university went through two separate expansions in the 19th century, adding a law school in 1843 and an agriculture and mechanical arts schools in 1872. They have since added many other programs, bringing the total to 15 schools.
