Scripps and E. B. Scripps. The facility was called the Scripps Institution of Marine Biology. In 1960, when the Regents decided to name the general campus the University of California, San Diego, they voted that the Scripps school be known as University of California's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla.
