The United Malays National Organization, commonly referred to as the UMNO, is a right-wing, conservative political party in Malaysia. It is the largest political party in the country, and is the controlling member of the Barisan National Coalition. Party Policies
- Supports laws that favor ethnic Malays over non-Malays
- Supports Islamic Law, and applies them to both Muslim and non-Muslim citizens
- The UMNO Youth League has been particularly radical with its anti-Chinese sentiment
Poor Performance in 2008 Elections
The UMNO is a central member of the Barisan Coalition, which has controlled the Malaysian parliament since the country declared independence.
