Underworld is a British electronica group formed by vocalist Karl Hyde and guitarist Rick Smith in 1986.
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been recording together since the mid-80s. They released their debut album, Underneath the Radar, as Underworld in 1988. The group released two more albums before going on a brief hiatus in the early 90s.
Their song "Born Slippy" was featured in Danny Boyle's 1996 film Trainspotting. The inclusion of the song on the films soundtrack brought the band worldwide recognition and mainstream success for the band Underworld.
Underworld's DJ, Darren Emerson, left in 2000 in order to focus on his career outside of the band. Hyde and Smith continued as a duo until 2005 when they were joined by Darren Price, a prominent DJ from London.
