Uncle Tupelo

Categories: Entertainment | Music | Travel
  • Uncle Tupelo was a Country Rock band from Illinois that helped to establish and define the Alternative Country movement of the early 1990s. Although they never achieved any commercial success during their career, the band was a major influence on a number of up and coming bands. The members of the band released their first three albums on the Rockville Records label before signing with Sire Records and expanding to become a five piece group. After releasing their first major label album Andoyne on Sire records, the group broke up due to tensions between the group's two main songwriters, Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar. Farrar went on to form the band Son Volt, while Tweedy regrouped with the rest of the band to form Wilco.
