Criticism
The Security Council no direct control over an armed force, economic power, or any other means to enforce its resolutions. In effect, there are no guaranteed consequences if a country disobeys the UN Security Council. Critics have pointed to the Darfur genocide as an example of the Security Council's inability to enforce its resolutions.

On April 14, 2009, North Korea responded to the U.N.'s condemnation by boycotting further talks with the six countries.
