UMPC

UMPC stands for Ultra-Mobile PC. Originally known by its codename, Project Origami, the UMPC was developed as a joint venture between Microsoft, Intel, Samsung, and others.

UMPC Features

UMPCs run a version of Windows XP which can be used with a stylus. The Project Origami model is more of a template for manufacturers to use for designing their own models. However, they must still meet the specifications provided by Microsoft and Intel.

UMPCs can run any software compatible with Windows XP, although some changes may be needed to work with the smaller interface. UMPCs have their own on-screen keyboards, but their are ports to plug in an external keyboard and mouse. UMPCs are powerful enough to support video and audio. Video games can also be played on the units. Multiple accessories are available for UMPCs form a variety of companies.
