History
Ukrainian resembles both the Belarusian and Russian languages. They all stem from Old East Slavic, a language that was commonly spoken before the 14th century. The languages separated around the 12th or 13th centuriy and developed their own characteristics. When Ukraine was occupied by Lithuania and Poland, Lithuanian and Polish served as the main languages of Ukraine. During the era of the Soviet Union, Ukrainian grammar and vocabulary were greatly influenced by Russian.Transparent Language: Overview Of The Ukrainian Language Ukrainians.ca: Ukrainian Language Languages Of The World: Introduction Languages Of The World: Structure-
