• Gun Crime in the UK has been a major issue for the last decade. Most of the crimes involving guns are gang or drug related. Some officials and politicians place blame the rise in popularity of 'gun culture'. Handguns were banned in 1997 following the Dublane massacre. In a further attempt to curb violence the Violent Crime Reduction Bill was passed in 2006 restricting sales of air guns, replica guns and allowing police to search bars for customers who may have knives or guns.
