Ugly Betty is a dramedy starring America Ferrera that chronicles the rise of an ugly duckling in the world of fashion journalism. The program is based on the popular Mexican program entitled Yo soy, Betty La Fea. The title character, Betty Suarez, leaves her down-to-earth family in Queens everyday to go uptown where she works at one of the most glamorous fashion magazines in the world. She holds together the wild social life of her boss, dodges the barbs of other assistants. and competes to become the next great fashion journalist.
