  • The University of Connecticut Lady Huskies play college basketball in the Big East Conference. The Connecticut Lady Huskies program is considered to be one of the programs by which all other women's athletic programs are measured. The team, led by head coach Geno Auriemma, has won six national championships and has reached the Women's Final Four 10 times, including the 2009 tournament.

    The 2009 UConn Huskies completed a perfect 33-0 regular season to earn a top seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament.     They have won 17 regular season and 16 conference tournament championships playing in the Big East. When the women's team won the 2004 national title, and the Connecticut men's team did the same that season, Connecticut became the first school to win the national championship for both genders in the same sport in the same year. The Lady Huskies have also produced some of the top players in the history of women's basketball, including: Rebecca Lobo, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Jennifer Rizzotti, Swin Cash and Nykesha Sales.
