• History

  The program began in 1977, and found immediate success thanks to the hiring of Gene Bartow. A protégé of legendary UCLA coach John Wooden, Bartow brought instant credibility to the program, which resulted in immediate dividends. In 1981, the Blazers won their first NCAA Tournament game by defeating Western Kentucky. A year later, they reached the regional finals, falling just one game short of the Final Four. The team is currently coached by Mike Davis, best known for replacing Bob Knight at Indiana. Some alumni that have played in the NBA include Jerome Mincy, Oliver Robinson, Steve Mitchell, and Reginald Turner.
