  • March 2, 2006: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the United States President George W. Bush agreed a deal in which India agreed to separate its civilian and military nuclear programs. The deal requires Indian nuclear plants to be open to international inspection. India's Communists are unhappy about the closer ties that the deal will encourage. India's Communists are important as they form part of the coalition that governs India.
