  • The U.S. Department of Commerce is a Cabinet-level federal agency which oversees the development of the domestic economy. The department was also originally responsible for bureaus and agencies related to the workforce until the formation of the U.S. Department of Labor in 1913.

  • Department Mission

    The department's mission is to "to foster, promote, and develop the foreign and domestic commerce of the United States." It is responsible for managing multiple bureaus which work with other agencies to create national policy, promote international trade, strengthen the country's global economic position, promote domestic business growth, ensure efficient use of physical, scientific and technical resources, and assist states, businesses and individuals with economic progress.
