The body of three-year-old Ty Toribio was found by a woman at Alvarado Park in Albuquerque after the woman saw one of his shoes visible in the sand. Police unearthed the boy, but were initially unable to identify him as the heat from the sand had disfigured his face. Police confronted Tiffany Toribio in the early morning hours of May 21, 2009, at which time she confessed to the murder. She stated that she suffocated the boy, then changed her mind and performed CPR, bringing him back to life. Toribio then went through with the original plan and suffocated him again, burying his body in the playground.
