  • While in stationed in Okinawa, Japan, U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Tyrone Luther Hadnott was accused of raping a Japanese teenager. Hadnott was arrested on February 11, 2008 and held by Japanese police. Japanese law permits suspects to be held for 10 days before being charges are brought, with an option for 10 more days if necessary.

    Charges in Japan were dropped after the teen withdrew the charges, but as of April 25, 2008, Hadnott was charged with abusive sexual contact with a child, making a false official statement, adultery and kidnapping by U.S. officials. A date for the court martial has not yet been set.
