A Popular Monster
Since its discovery in 1892, Tyrannosaurus Rex has captured the imagination of dinosaur fans and the wider world, as well. This bipedal carnivore -- which stood taller than a house, had a skull as long as a full-grown man is tall, and sported curved, serrated teeth as long as daggers -- was long considered to be the largest land predator the world has ever seen. Though it has been removed from its thrown as "King of the Tyrant Lizards" by the discovery of the larger Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus, most people still consider the Tyrannosaurus Rex the archetypal meat-eating dinosaur. -
