Typhoon Parma is a so-called "super typhoon" that formed in late-September 2009 in the western Pacific Ocean. The monster storm hit the already flood-ravaged Philippines on Saturday, October 3, 2009, with wind gusts of up to 115 miles per hour. Reports said the typhoon made landfall north of the Philippine island of Luzon. Manila avoided a direct hit from the storm, but concerns were mounting about more flooding; forecasters said some areas of the Philippines could get up to 20 inches of rain from Typhoon Parma.http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/10/01/philippines.typhoon.parma/index.html?iref=mpstoryview
