American professional hockey player Ty Conklin currently plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League.
Career Highlights
Conklin began his career playing for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats hockey team, starting in 1997. Despite a remarkable college playing career, he was not drafted, instead signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers on April 17, 2001. Conklin split his first few seasons between the Oilers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, playing just four games his first season. He played a career high 38 games during the 2003-04 season, finishing with a 2.42 goals against average. Also in 2004, Conklin represented Team U.S.A. in the World Ice Hockey Championships, winning a bronze medal. Conklin signed as a free agent on July 6, 2006 with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played 11 games for the Blue Jackets before he was traded again, on February 27, 2007, to the Buffalo Sabres. Conklin completed the 2006-07 season in Buffalo, then entered free agency, signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 19, 2007.
