The micro-blogging site Twitter allows users to send short “tweets”—140 character status updates—to all of their contacts. A growing phenomenon on Twitter is for cat owners to send these messages actually impersonating their cat, as if the animal were the one typing the message. One such cat, Sockington, has grown quite popular on the site and has over 14,200 followers as of January 30, 2009.Twitter: SockingtonNew York Times: The Age of Tweety Cats (November 6, 2008)
