Twhirl is a program that allows users to access their Twitter accounts without a web browser. It is one of the most popular third-party clients that is desiged to work with Twitter. With Twhirl, users can see the Twitter feeds to which they subscribe and post tweets to their own feeds. Twhirl was built using Adobe AIR, which allows for cross-platform usage. In April of 2008 Twhirl was acquired by Seesmic.

Other Services
In addition to Twitter, Twhirl also works with microblogging services Jaiku and Pownce, and can post images to TwitPic, a service that automatically generates tweets with links to pictures taken from mobile devices. Twitter also works with FriendFeed. Cross-posting (posting one message to multiple services) to Jaiku and Pownce is possible with Twhirl, but the program does not support veiwing of public timelines or any streams of either of the two services. -
