Twelve Monkeys is a dystopian, post-apocalyptic Science Fiction thriller about convicted criminal James Cole (Bruce Willis) who is given the chance to travel back in time to save the world from a deadly virus. Based on the French short film La Jetée and directed by Terry Gilliam, the movie centers around Cole's attempts at location the source of the virus and his run-ins with various people, including a psychiatrist (played by Madeleine Stowe) and a mentally unstable animal rights activist (played by Brad Pitt). The movie was a critical success and earned Pitt an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
