Tutankhamun

Categories: Social Science
  • Tutankhamun, or King Tut, was an Egyptian Pharaoh, born in 1341 BC. He ascended to the throne around the age of eight or nine, during the New Kingdom. He ruled Egypt for roughly ten years before dying at the age of 18 or 19. Based on CT scans done on his body in 2005, it is believed that King Tut died from a gangrene infection that had set in after he broke his leg several days before his death.
  • Lineage

It is unclear who Tutankhamun's parents really were. Some research indicates that Amonhotep III and Queen Tiye may have been his mother and father. Other reports suggest that Amonhotep III was his father, but an entirely different woman was his mother. More recent reports indicate that it's possible that Amonhotep IV and his wife Queen Kiya were his parents. It has also been speculated that Smenkhkare and Meritaten were his mother and father.
