  • About Tulane University

    Once a medical school named the Medical College of Louisiana, Tulane was originally part of the University of Louisiana. It emerged as a private university in 1884, named after millionaire Paul Tulane. By 1886, a woman's college named Sophie Newcomb Memorial College was made part of the university.
