The series was hosted by Serena Altschul for two episodes between 2002 and 2004. Gideon Yago also hosted for five episodes between 2003 and 2007.

The very first episode of True Life was titled "Fatal Dose". This episode focused on the lives of heroin addicts and the nature of heroin addiction. After this initial episode the show really picked up. The series is currently in its ninth season.
