Major League Baseball shortstop Troy Tulowitzki currently plays for the Colorado Rockies. He is widely regarded as one of the best all-around shortstops in baseball. In 2007, he finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting to Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun.
Early Life
Troy Trever Tulowitzki was born in Santa Clara, California on October 10, 1984. He attended Fremont High School in California, establishing himself as an elite athlete at the high school level, playing both basketball and baseball. In 2002, he was named the Fremont High School Athlete of the Year. He then attended California State University, Long Beach where he became one of the top college baseball prospects in the nation.
Pro Career
Tulowitzki was selected with the 7th pick in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He made his major league debut on August 30, 2006. In 2007, Tulowitzki earned the starting role at shortstop. He went on to win the National League Rookie of the Month for August 2007. With his steady defense and impressive hitting, Tulowitzki led the Rockies to their first ever World Series that same year. He finished the season second in National League Rookie of the Year honors and was named to the Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team for 2007. In 2008, he signed a six year contract with the Rockies for $31 million.
