Troy Smith has been the Baltimore Ravens’ backup Quarterback since being selected 174th overall in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Following a stunning college career at Ohio State University, which involved a 62.7% pass completion record for 5,720 yards, 54 Touchdowns (TD’s) and only 13 Interceptions (INT’s) throughout his career, Smith received numerous awards and accolades. Smith topped the 300-yard Total Offense mark six times, which tied a school record. Troy also set a school record for 30 TD’s in a single season during his senior year.
As a result, Troy Smith became OSU’s 7th Heisman Trophy Award recipient in 2006. He was also a 1st-team selection for the All American squad, and named 1st-team All American Honoree by the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association, the American Football Writers’ Association of America and The Sporting News.
Troy Smith also earned The Sporting News player of the Year Award, and the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Year Award as a result of Ohio State’s appearance in the BCS National Championship game against The University of Florida. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Players/Under_Contract-Own_Rights/Troy_Smith.aspx
Troy Smith 2009 Season
During the 2009 regular season, Smith saw action in four games, completing 5 passes in 9 attempts for 24 yards, and making 1 INT. He also rushed for 31 yards, including a career-long 15 yard TD.
Smith subbed as Quarterback in the 4th Quarter of game 13 against the Detroit Lions, when he completed 2 of 3 passes for 10 yards, carried the ball twice for 14 yards, and rushed for a 15 yard TD in the 48-3 victory.
In game 14 against the Chicago Bears, Smith again subbed as Quarterback during the 4th Quarter. He rushed for 17 yards in 6 attempts and completed 2 of 4 passes for 10 yards in the 31-7 win. Troy Smith seems to be a solid offensive acquisition for the Ravens, a team largely, if not overly, dependant on their defense. http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Players/Under_Contract-Own_Rights/Troy_Smith.aspx
