• Troy is a 2004 film directed by Wolfgang Petersen, loosely based on Homer's epic poem Iliad, about the Trojan War.
  • Background

Troy was initially going to shoot in Morocco, but local conflict forced the production to move to Baja California and the Mediterranean island of Malta. The expensive film was made even more costly after two hurricanes in Mexico delayed the production. One of the storms destroyed the home in which actor Brad Pitt was staying.

Gabriel Yared was originally hired to do the music for the film, and spent a year on the project, before being replaced by James Horner after early audiences found his music "old-fashioned."

  • Reception

With a budget of about $180 million, Troy remains one of the most expensive motion pictures ever made. It was considered a box office disappointment, despite bringing in $133 million in the U.S. alone.

On February 17, 2007, Petersen screened a "Director's Cut" at the Berlin Film Festival, which has since been released on DVD.
